This course will assist experienced deckhands who are committed to entering the wheel house obtain hands-on tug/barge handling experience. Often times a mate in training aboard a tug will not receive the wheel/stick time they need given the pace and liability of the industry and environment of the average wheel house. Often times the mate in training is a maritime academy graduate or deckhand with significant experience.
EEMI will provide the instruction and hands on boat/barge handling experience mates in training should have. As well, experienced captains will provide professional watch standing and leadership training the next generation of mates need to take the helm of the industry.
