All Maritime Education Programs can be modified/customized to meet specific needs and achieve specific goals.
The Peconic Bay Science Program and Peconic Bay Art Program are run in cooperation with the Greenport Electric Launch Company. Greenport Electric Launch operates Long Island’s only “Green” certified commercial vessel (M/V Glory). Peconic Bay Science Program (Download PDF) – This 5 day program is an interactive marine ecology, local maritime history and boating safety course. This course has been designed by master mariner, Captain David Berson and renowned science teacher Robert Jester.
Developed to be taught aboard GLORY, Long Island's only “Green”, zero emissions Eco- tour boat, The Peconic Bay Science Program will make gathering and studying data about Peconic Bay, learning about boating and working as a team fun.
Peconic Bay Art Program – For students age 8-12 – (Download PDF) This two day class will be offered to interested students on Saturday and Sunday mornings in July and August from 9am to 11am. (a maximum of 8 students will attend each weekend and the program is for two days)
This is an integrated program designed to facilitate a child’s interest in art, promote safe boating and foster a love for the marine environment.
Piloting and basic navigation – These courses are designed to provide mariners with navigation skills. Both entry level and advanced seminars are available. (Electronic/GPS, Terrestrial, Celestial, Tides and Currents)
Maritime Literature – Intensive three day, 2 night maritime literature course. This trip would include seminars, lectures, reading time and deck work to compliment the subject matter. This course would be available for groups of high school students, college students or adults.
The art of ship handling - This course is available to those mariners seeking the challenge of learning to maneuver a large single screw vessel. This will be a multi-day course that entails class room instruction as well as hands on boat handling. Participants will have the opportunity to land, sail, and back and fill a large single screw tug.
